International astronomical summer camp was held in Zselickisfalud

As part of the implementation of the project “Tourism 4 All” (full name: „Common tourism development of natural and cultural assets of Suhopolje-Noskovačka Dubrava-Zselic Starry Park“), implementation of which started in the beginning of September 2017, international astronomical camp was held in Zselickisfalud.

The camp was held from 10th August to 17th August 2018, and at the end from 15th to 17th August 2018. visitors from the Croatian side of the border joined the camp.

The campsite was at Zselickisfalud, a village not far from Zselic protected area (Zselic Landscape Protection Area), which is also Zselic Starry Sky Park. Light pollution is so low in this part of Zselic, that the Milky Way is clearly visible and the that makes it ideal place for all those who want to see and enjoy the many miracles of night sky that cannot be seen from other areas.

In addition to observing many wonders of night sky, participants could use their telescope or large instruments from the association of astronomers who handed out equipment for use to all camp participants. As part of the camp, astronomical lectures, talks and workshops were held, and participants were also provided with the opportunitie for participation in social programs such as swimming in nearby lake close to the camp. Participants spent their time in a friendly atmosphere with lots of laughter, and the basic rules of the camp were:

  1. everyone can observe the stars,
  2. everyone can use all available telescopes and …
  3. everyone can sleep as much as they want (considering that most of the activities of the camp were spent under the night sky until the early morning hours when the visibility of celestial objects is clear).

During their stay at the camp, participants had the opportunity to visit the Public Observatory of the Zselic Park of Stars and observe with a 40-cm Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
